The industry's share of the total Swiss exports has increased continuously since 1980. In 2010 the share amounts to more than one third.
In the period from 1980 to 2010 the exports of the chemical and pharmaceutical industry grew 26.7 % annually, while the total growth rate of all sectors of the Swiss industry was 14.6 % per year.
